Christopher Pazdernik, Jeff-award winner for Best Director, empowers students to audition for any musical theatre opportunity with confidence by strengthening techniques in acting & singing.   Topics will include how to create a strong audition book, knowing your “type”, acting through the song, how to approach a cold reading, audition room tips & etiquette, & how to understand & take direction.

MASTERING THE MONOLOGUE
w/ Ryan Kitley

7th-12th Grade

Ryan Kitley, a working actor for almost 20 years – most recently seen at Goodman Theatre & Chicago Shakespeare – lends his expertise to the challenge of mastering the monologue audition.   In this 1-day workshop, actors will bring a monologue of their choosing & learn how to effectively execute specific choices using given circumstances & intent for a polished, dynamic audition piece.

THE SELF-TAPE AUDITION

9th Grade – Adult

No studio? No problem! This hands-on workshop demonstrates how to make high-quality, effective self-taped auditions.  Learn how to utilize lighting, choose the right background, as well as how to choose your best clips & edit them for the most concise, professional tape. Well-crafted tapes can make or break an audition – do not miss out on this unique workshop!

This workshop will be seminar-style with some demonstrations requiring participants. Parents are welcome to register in addition to their students, or student or parent can attend on their own.

SCENE STUDY INTENSIVE

The answers are in the text. Learn how to mine a scene or play for information on your character. Under the instruction of Victory Garden’s Casting Director, Laura Alcalá Baker, students will deepen their work by finding their character’s actions, objectives, & relationship to the arc of the scene.
