LITTLE ACTORS

.

Acting Through Imagination

Grades K – 1st

Students will use imagination, theatre games, & improvisation to bring classic stories to life. Learn the value of working together & actively listening in order to create a performance-ready story. There will be an opportunity for parents to observe the last day of class.

This fast-paced, dynamic class will teach important acting skills, concluding each day with a wacky 10-minute performance for families.  Projection, physical expression and dynamic acting will be encouraged through new scripts and classic stories.

Actors Essentials

This core class breaks down the most ambitious steps for the young actor. Students will explore the vocal, physical, and emotional details that lead to creating believable characters and scenes.

Actors Essentials: The Ensemble

In this Level 2 acting class students will be exposed to the philosophy and critical skill of supporting fellow actors through ensemble development. Students will work with a rotation of professional teachers using improv, physical theatre, and scene work. Open last class for friends and family.

Acting for the Camera

Specifically designed to create real on-set situations using film & television scripts, this course will have students working from true industry copy and watching HD playback for optimal learning.

The Professional Actors Toolbox

Scene Study, Monologue & Physical Theatre are three must-have techniques a serious actor needs in this competitive field. This compact class, taught by a rotation of ATC teachers, is designed with a keen eye for the actor who is ready to start working in the industry.

Improvisation

Long Form Improvisation

Returning students will learn to create original scenes through long-form improvisation. A focus on believability allows humor to come from honest choices rather than “going for the joke”. This class will feature a long-form improvised final performance for friends and family.

“No Explanation”: ATC’s Comedy Troupe

The ATC Comedy Troupe, “No Explanation”, represents our most advanced improvisers who have proven ready to perform for the public.  This troupe will write an original sketch comedy revue, developed through improv, which will be showcased in Chicago on Saturday, May 19.

Students must be available for performances and are expected to attend all class sessions and tech rehearsals.

Prerequisite: By Instructor Approval

Acting for the Camera

This essential class provides a comprehensive introduction to on camera technique. Students will shoot in our professional studio, work from actual industry copy, and analyze their own work as it is played back each week.

Designed for actors with a fundamental understanding of acting for the camera, this next on camera course turns its focus to telling stories simply & making subtle yet specific choices by creating real-world situations through film & television scripts.

Advanced On Camera

This class challenges the advanced on camera actor to deepen their work for a more complex, truthful on camera performance. Founder Carole Dibo and other industry guests alternate instructing this class.

Acting Through Song

Musical Theatre performances are powerful when the song furthers both the character’s journey and the play’s central story.  This class takes the five W’s (who, what, where, when and why) and applies them to song.  This class will culminate in a final performance for friends and family.

Musical Theatre Lab at the Actors Training Center

The MT Lab offers students an intensive and inclusive environment in which to develop, synthesize, attack, and practice their craft as actors specializing in musical theatre.  In a collaborative environment led by Chicago’s finest musical theatre talent, students will gain the essential tools and critical confidence not only to understand musical theatre as an art form, but to set themselves apart from their peers in artistry and technique as we guide them on a strong path to be working professionals in Chicago’s theatre community and beyond. The spring session offers the invaluable opportunity to spend 10 weeks workshopping a musical.
