Shaina has been an actor and teaching artist in Chicago for the past seven years. Previously she has taught with Porchlight Music Theatre and Emerald City Theatre where she worked in residencies at Chicago Public Schools, after school classes, as well as their summer camps. She has also taught theatre classes with Special Olympics through the Chicago Parks Department. Shaina is a mentor with Statera Arts, which works to uplift, amplify, and advance pathways for women in the arts. As an actor, Shaina has worked with companies in Chicago such as Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Griffin Theatre, Strawdog Theatre, Organic Theatre Company, Theater Wit, Midsommer Flight, Jackalope Theatre Company, The Shakespeare All-Stars, Backroom Shakespeare, Timber Lake Playhouse, Twenty Percent Theatre, The Runaways, and (re)discover theatre. Shaina also has co-written, produced, and performed in a sketch show at iO Theatre and The Second City. Regionally she has worked with Montana Shakespeare Festival, Great River Shakespeare Festival and Houston Shakespeare Festival. On camera, Shaina has worked on commercial, indie film, and big budget sets. She loves bringing her practical experience in theatre, improv, and film to all of her classes!
About the course
Our weekly classes will run with a hybrid model, beginning online & aiming to meet in person starting in April, following Spring Break.
This class is designed to be an introduction into the wonderful world of acting. Whether you have a budding star or someone who is working on coming out of their shell, this class will introduce beginning actors to the art of working together through theatre games and play techniques engaging their bodies, voices, and imaginations in new ways.
This class culminates in an open house showcase for friends and family.
