Youth Classes

4th-6th Grade

Winter 2020

Actors Essentials

Sundays // 11:00am-1:00pm // January 19 - March 15

This core class breaks down the most challenging steps for the young actor. Students will explore the vocal, physical, and emotional details that lead to creating three-dimensional characters and scenes.

Actors Essentials: The Ensemble

Saturdays // 10:15am-12:15pm / January 18 - March 14

In this level 2 acting class students will be exposed to the philosophy and critical skill of supporting fellow actors through ensemble development. Students will begin working on their improvisational skills geared towards a focus on tackling scripted work. Learn how to be free, make choices, and take those skills into the text.

Prerequisite: Actors Essentials OR Studio Approval

Acting for the Camera

Sundays // 1:15pm-3:15pm // January 19 - March 15

On camera acting can be a challenge for the young actor whose instinct is to push to “get it right” when what is needed from them is to bring their authentic selves to their work. Our professional actors/instructors give a practical approach that will help students gain the confidence to say, “I am enough”.

Students will work in our professional studio, getting in front of the camera each week with commercial and film/TV copy and will receive adjustments and notes after watching playback.

Acting for the Camera 2

Saturdays // 12:15pm-2:15pm // Jan 25 - March 14

Students that have mastered basic on camera technique are ready for a deeper approach to finding unique insight to a role. Using text analysis and given circumstances will help actors avoid obvious choices that others might make. By using their own inner strength and energy students will work from a place of complete confidence and let the camera come to them as they tackle longer and more complicated scenes and situations than found in Level 1.

Instructor: Siobhan Reddy-Best (Talent Agent with Paonessa Talent Agency)

Prerequisite: Acting for the Camera OR Studio Approval

From Scene to Song

Sundays // 3:30pm-5:30pm // February 23 - March 15

Moving from speech or scene into song smoothly in a musical is critical to the story's believability. In this class, actors develop the scene before the song, and then the song, so that the audience moves seamlessly from acting to singing, enhancing the song's emotional spell.
